OFFICIAL figures show that the cold snap during February made this winter the coldest in 30 years.

Huddersfield University’s weather station recorded temperatures for the month which showed how cold it was.

The temperature dropped to -2.3°C on Tuesday 16 and Saturday 20.

For the first time since the university’s records began, February’s temperature failed to reach double figures.

The monthly mean temperature was 2.76°C, making it the third coldest month of all months since 1990.

The warmest day of the month was Thursday 25, with an average temperature of 5.78°C.

A total of 57.6mm of rain fell during the month, compared with the average rainfall for February of 73.26mm.

The wettest day of the month was Thursday 25, with 14.6mm of rainfall.

The mean wind speed for February was 8.6km/hr – the highest gust of wind was 82.08km, recorded on Wednesday 10.
