WARRING football yobs who did battle in Huddersfield have been warned: There’s nowhere to hide.

The warning came as a specialist police team set up to investigate the violent incident on April 16 released pictures of seven people they want to trace.

The six men and a woman were caught on CCTV in or near the Waterloo Tavern pub on Wakefield Road on the night Huddersfield Town played Millwall at the Galpharm Stadium.

Trouble erupted outside the pub as coaches and minibuses transported away supporters into Huddersfield for the game.

Det Insp Jim Griffiths, who is in charge of the dedicated team of officers investigating the incident, said: “Some of those taking part in the disorder at Waterloo on April 16 may think that their involvement has gone unnoticed.

“I can assure them that this is certainly not the case.

“We are actively pursuing those responsible and we have been viewing CCTV from the time of the incident.

“Today we are releasing a number of images from that footage of people we would like to speak to in connection with the incident.

“We simply want to know who these people in the photographs are. If you recognise them, please let us know.

“Likewise, if you see yourself, contact your nearest police station immediately.”

Problems started when coaches and minibuses carrying the Millwall contingent were pelted with missiles at about 7pm.

Rival groups then clashed on the street with up to 60 people fighting running battles using pool cues, bottles and bricks as weapons.

Following a series of operations, officers have now arrested eight people in Huddersfield and eight in Millwall.

They are on bail pending further inquiries.

All these CCTV pictures are thought to show people from Huddersfield.

Det Insp Griffiths added: “There is no place for disorder of any kind in Kirklees.

“Anyone who has been involved in this type of offence should be warned that we could be knocking on your door next.

“We believe that this particular incident was a spontaneous and isolated incident.

“However, it is vital that we underline that this behaviour will not be accepted.”

Police made three arrests when Town played host to Millwall in the first play-off semi-final last Saturday.

And Metropolitan Police officers said there had been “a small number” of arrests at the second leg on Tuesday night.

Anyone who recognises the people pictured on the next two pages, or who has further information, should call Det Con Nick Doyle at Huddersfield CID on 01484 436664 or Crimestoppers, in confidence, on 0800 555111.
