MILLIONS of words have already been said and written about the Olympic Games which kicked off in spectacular style in London last night.

But there is one group of people who can in many ways make or break the Games for those who make the journey to London to see the world’s sports stars in action and who are perhaps, as yet, unsung..

Those people are the Olympic volunteers who are giving their energies and their enthusiasm to ensure that these Olympics are remembered for the warmth of their welcome as much as for big performances in venues across the country.

Among those who have committed the next two weeks to working in London as a volunteer is Huddersfield’s Gillian Boothroyd. Gill has volunteered in memory of her late husband Sydney Boothroyd who was an Olympic diving judge. In doing so she will add to her own memories and help create new ones for many other people.
