AUTUMN – not summer – brought some of Huddersfield’s hottest days last year.

Temperatures of 28ºC were recorded on September 30 and October 1 in 2011.

But the hottest day of the year was June 27 when readings peaked at 30.9ºC.

Figures released by Huddersfield University’s school of applied sciences show how the year began with freezing conditions.

January was the coldest month, with an average temperature of 4.4ºC and the coldest day was January 20 when it dipped to -3.2ºC.

Less rainfall was recorded in 2011 with a total of 650.5mm against an average of 823.5mm, making it the driest since 1993.

December proved to be the wettest and windiest month, providing more than 20% of the year’s rainfall alone.

The wettest day was February 3 when 33.6mm fell.

There were few April showers in 2011, with the month being the driest of the year.

Huddersfield went 23 days with no rainfall from April 12 to May 4, making the month the second driest April since records began in 1990.

The windiest month was December, with average wind speeds of 17.75km an hour.

But the biggest gusts were recorded in February. The 4th was the windiest day when there were wind speeds of up to almost 44km an hour.

On the 7th a gust of 131.76km an hour was recorded.
