A PENSIONER was airlifted to hospital after hitting her head after a fall while on a walk in the Lake District.

The 79-year-old woman from Huddersfield, who has not been named, was injured at Ullswater in Cumbria on Saturday at around 2pm.

Patterdale Mountain Rescue Team were called by the police to help rescue her.

She had fallen over a rock while walking on a lakeside path between Howtown to Glenridding.

The rescue team used their boat to get to the scene where the Great North Air Ambulance was providing care.

They then carried the woman to the helicopter and she was flown to Carlisle Infirmary for treatment.

Fourteen members of the rescue team helped to save the pensioner.

The woman’s family were taken back to Howtown in their car.
