MORE THAN 300 people took part in a bowel cancer information day in Huddersfield – including a murder squad detective who is battling the disease.
Specialist colo-rectal nurses from Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust organised the event at the Briar Court Hotel at Birchencliffe.
It was attended by patient John Lee, who works with West Yorkshire Police’s Homicide And Major Enquiry Team and has bravely spoken out about his fight against bowel cancer in the hope that others will spot early signs of the life-threatening disease and seek medical attention.
Det Con Lee has undergone major surgery and is now recovering.
He has worked on some of West Yorkshire Police’s most high profile cases and hopes to be able to return to work in the coming months.
During the event experts gave advice about a new screening programme and answered questions about bowel cancer with its symptoms and treatment.
Patients, supporters and health professionals all visited the information stands which included products available for sufferers.
