HUDDERSFIELD’S Christmas ice rink opens next Thursday.

Contractors are now building the rink on The Piazza and it will open on December 3 for four weeks.

Kirklees Council has frozen prices this year to encourage more people to try it out.

Industrial Frigo Ice, from Italy, won the tender to build the ice rink.

As well as having more than 15 years experience of building some of the best ice rinks in Europe, the firm was also the most competitively-priced, which has meant that the council has passed savings onto skaters.

Under 16s and Kirklees Passport Holders will be able to enjoy an hour’s skating for £3.50 and over 16s pay £6.

Clr Mehboob Khan, leader of Kirklees Council, said: “I am delighted to be bringing back the open air ice-rink – Huddersfield on Ice – for its fourth year running.

“The rink attracts over 13,000 ice skaters every winter and I hope that this year we can encourage many more to come and have a go.

“I hope that everyone gets a chance to enjoy Huddersfield on Ice this year”.
