The Voice star Georgia Harrup is just two steps away from the final of the BBC singing contest.

The Lepton lass is set to sing for survival after she was picked by Sir Tom Jones to go through to the live shows.

Georgia, 27, who is related to chart topping diva Adele, impressed the judges with her version of Bob Marley’s Three Little Birds.

She will appear on our screens again on Saturday as the live quarter finals take place.

Celebrity judges Kylie Minogue and Will.i.am both heaped praise on her performance, which aired on BBC1’s high profile show last night.

Kylie claimed she was “slightly obsessed” with the Huddersfield singer while Black Eyed Peas star Will.i.am, said her song had blown him away.

A tense wait occurred as Sir Tom was given the tough task of picking just three of his seven strong team.

The Welsh icon had Huddersfield hopes wavering as he picked 54-year-old Sally Barker as his first choice.

But Georgia’s nervous wait was soon over after he selected her as his second pick.

Leicester’s Bizzi Dixon was the third artist chosen for the live shows at the weekend.

BBC executives now have Georgia holed up in London with all the other quarter finalists as they all prepare for the biggest day of their lives.

Speaking to The Examiner from the capital this morning, Georgia said she had been busy preparing for Saturday with her mentor Sir Tom.

She said she could not reveal what she would be singing but admitted she would be dancing for the first time.

“This week there’s been a lot of rehearsing and the mentoring has been absolutely crazy,” she said.

“I had to pinch myself when I was standing next to Tom Jones and he was singing to me.

“I look at him as a normal person and then on the other hand you suddenly think, this is Tom Jones!

“It’s been so much fun.

“He’s suggested things I should do with my songs and how I could do it differently.

“I can’t reveal what I’m singing but I am working with a choreographer.

“I’ve got some moves planned but I’m really going to have to concentrate.

“It’s a bit nerve wracking as I’ve never had to do this before.”

Georgia, who has now got more than 5,000 followers on Twitter, said she was delighted to be making a go of pop stardom.

But she has revealed the success hasn’t been popular with everyone and said she had been sent negative comments from people who thought she was too confident.

She said: “It’s been hard to get some of the negative stuff but the most positive stuff has come from Huddersfield, which is really lovely.

“To think my hometown is behind me means so much.

“The negative stuff isn’t so nice but there’s always going to be a difference of opinions wherever you go.

“From the bottom of my heart I can say I’m not arrogant or cocky.

“I wouldn’t have been able to do this a couple of years ago as I didn’t have the confidence.

“I didn’t believe in myself, I didn’t even like myself.

“I’m totally different now and it just blows my mind that I’m on a show like this.

“Five or six years ago I was just sitting in my bedroom and I didn’t even want to sing.

“I was so down that I didn’t want to live anymore – nobody should live like that.”

The next episode of The Voice is tonight at 7.45pm and Georgia's live show will be on BBC1 on Saturday at 6.45pm.
