Homeless shelter, ice rink, new ground for Huddersfield Town or concert arena - those are some of the suggestions our Facebook fans came up with for what to do with the former sports centre site.

Earlier we revealed Tesco has bought itself out of a multi-million pound deal to buy the old Huddersfield sports centre land from Kirklees Council.

The new deal will see the council retain the land, get more land back to sell on, and get a cash lump sum from Tesco.

It means Tesco will not complete the purchase of the land, but will make a financial settlement releasing them from the legally binding commitments with the council.

Now all the land acquired by Tesco will go back to Kirklees Council .

On Facebook, Trudy Brookes said: "Why don't you use it for homeless people, make it a shelter offering beds, food, etc?"

Christopher T G Owen agreed, adding: "The centre could be used to collect and use supplies from other supermarkets and redistribute to other smaller shelters in the local area."

But James Bylina said: "It's not really the place for a homeless shelter. An existing building in the town centre should be converted into a shelter, instead of millions being spent on a completely new building."

Sharon Garraghan suggested housing for the elderly, while Casey Leanne-Roderick thought an ice rink would be a good idea.

Rachel Simpson said: "Bring back Woolies! Failing that, a town centre cinema that will be easier access to buses than the one at the stadium."

Other suggestions included a skate park, indoor football facilities, car parking, an indoor market, a school and a dry ski slope.
