MEMBERS of Huddersfield’s Kurdish community staged a moving memorial service.

A parade through the town and a short service were held to commemorate the lives of thousands of Kurds gassed in Iraq 22 years ago.

The massacre at Halabja was marked with similar events across the country and the world.

The procession from Greenhead Park was led by 22 men dressed in black, who had survived the atrocity.

They were joined by many other members of the community, including children, as they walked through the town to the Grace Centre in St John’s Road.

A short service including prayers and music from Tara Jaff was held at the centre.

A meal was also served.
