A STREET in Scissett has been named as the priciest place to live in the Huddersfield area.

Busker Lane came out top of a list of the most exclusive roads in the HD postcode area.

The average value of a property on the street is £595,400.

Second on the list was Northfield Lane in Kirkburton, where the average value is £576,900.

Others in the top 10 were Norwood Park in Birkby (£525,000), the Kirklees Hall development in Brighouse (£503,900), Arkenley Lane in Almondbury (£502,000), Gawthorpe Lane in Gawthorpe (£488,200), Northgate in Honley (£488,100), Pell Lane in Holmfirth (£480,600), Binns Lane in Holmfirth (£476,300) and Ashleigh Dale in Birkby.

Raymond Butterworth, managing director of Huddersfield estate agents Boultons said: “It is generally the case that at the very top end of the market houses don’t get caught up in the very long chain that affects houses a bit further down the price scale.

“If people want to buy a house at that end, they can generally afford it.”

Unsurprisingly, the most expensive street in the country, according to the website Mouseprice.com, is in London.

Properties on Chester Square in SW1W, average £6,296,000 in value.

That figure is down from £6,803,900 last year.

But one house on the street still sold for the eye-watering figure of £20m.

In Yorkshire, Fulwith Mill Lane in Harrogate (£1,193,300) came top, followed by Linton Lane (£1,096,100) and Manor House Lane in Leeds (£1,070,400).

The street ranking figures were based on all property transactions recorded by the Land Registry since April 2000 and aim to show the average cost of residential property. Streets of very few residential properties or those that have not had sufficient transactions may be excluded.

The most valuable property in Huddersfield is believed to be Banney Royd on Halifax Road – worth more than £3m.
