A charity focusing on neurological conditions has raised almost £500 in donations from a fun-filled festive night out.

The Nerve Centre, based at Greenhead Road, had hoped to raise £150 to go towards new and existing projects – but more than trebled the sum.

The money was raised by the Christmas Crew, who visited more than 20 pubs in the town, where people generously donated to the charity.

The Christmas Crew – who were festively dressed – was made up of Nerve Centre volunteer fundraising co-ordinator Jennie Jack and seven Huddersfield University physiotherapy students.

Huddersfield-based security firm Industry Security provided a chaperone to accompany them from pub to pub.

Richard Sykes, marketing support worker at the Nerve Centre, said: “It was fantastic effort by all the fundraisers who kindly gave their time in this way.

“It is vital that activities and classes are available and the money raised will ensure their continued use.”

The Nerve Centre is a user-led organisation, which is governed by a board of eight trustees from the Huddersfield area and has more than 500 individual members and over 5,000 through associated organisations.

Support and activities are provided by a staff of three with the help of more than 30 active volunteers.”

The Nerve Centre is open 10am to 4pm Monday to Friday for a range activities . It also offers a free drop-in service and an information library, which is open Tuesday to Thursday. Go to www.thenervecentrekirklees.org
