ONE of Huddersfield’s most prolific offenders has appeared in court again.

Clinford Joseph – who has over 260 convictions to his name – was before Kirklees magistrates yesterday.

He admitted charges of being drunk and disorderly in public and using threatening behaviour.

Magistrates heard that the offences occurred at Kirkgate in the town centre on March 19.

Vanessa Schofield, prosecuting, said: “Mr Joseph had clearly been drinking.

“He was being a nuisance and at one point he urinated in public.

Magistrates heard how the 31-year-old had an extensive record featuring many public order offences.

In February Joseph, of Lonsbrough Flats in Southgate, was jailed after assaulting a pub manager.

Neil Murphy, mitigating, said that his client was a chronic alcoholic.

He said: “His problem has caused him to commit these offences. He struggles to look after himself and one can only imagine the conditions of his flat.

“He drinks daily to excess and he falls over. You have a chronic alcoholic whose problems are deep-rooted.

“He’ll kill himself one day and it’s very sad.”

Magistrates fined Joseph £50 and ordered him to pay £20 victim surcharge.
