A LARGE-SCALE police search was underway last night after an elderly woman went missing from home.

Dorothy Miners, 79, who has Alzheimer's disease, disappeared from her Club Houses home, off Armitage Road, Armitage Bridge, at about 2pm.

She was reported missing about four hours later by her son, who lives with her.

Dozens of officers, as well as a police helicopter and Woodhead Mountain Rescue Team, were involved in house-to-house inquiries and a search of the surrounding area.

Mrs Miners was thought to be wearing distinctive tartan patterned trousers and possibly a blue rain coat and was possibly carrying a small rucksack.

Sgt Dave Taylor, who was involved in the search, said: “Obviously because of her vulnerability, this is quite a large-scale operation.”

Anyone who sees Mrs Miners should call police on 0845 6060606 and quote log number 1562.
