Hundreds of runners earned their Christmas dinner when they entered a festive race.

A total of 356 completed the five-kilometre event at Greenhead Park, which was hosted by Huddersfield’s Parkrun.

Santas, snowmen and even Banana Man came together for the sprint, while others wrapped up warm in their pyjamas and onesies and took their dogs along for the timed workout.

John Scoggins pelted through the park to win the race in only 17.24 minutes, earning a new personal best.

Perhaps it was the thought of what was cooking at home that spurred him on.

He was closely followed by Ian Rafferty and Henry Cash.

Organiser of the 9am run, Mark Nicholson, was there with his five-day-old son, Eli and partner, Katy, to join in the third such Christmas Day event.

He was one of dozens of Parkrun leaders to host special events around the country.

Normally each event takes place every Saturday.

Mark said: “It went really well and it was just lovely to get everyone together.

“We are one big community so it’s nice to be able to celebrate together in this way.”
