HUNDREDS of supporters have joined an internet group to show they are ready to continue the awareness campaign started by Examiner journalist Adrian Sudbury.

More than 500 people have joined the Adrian’s Army group on social networking website Facebook, just days after it was set up.

The group was created as a way of keeping in touch for people who have been following Adrian’s campaign to educate people about bone marrow donation.

Adrian, 27, launched his Sign Up For Sudders campaign three months ago after being told the leukaemia he had fought for 18 months was terminal.

He has spent the last weeks of his life raising awareness about bone marrow donation and has been pushing the Government to ensure all young people in schools and colleges are educated about the issue.

Adrian’s campaign has resulted in the Government planning to send out education packs about donation to all schools and colleges from September. There are also plans for a public information campaign in the pipeline.

Adrian has very little time left, but his army of supporters has pledged to continue his fight to educate people about bone marrow donation.

Many of his supporters have been following his illness and campaign through his online diary, Baldy’s Blog, which can be viewed at http://baldyblog.freshblogs.co.uk

Adrian’s colleague Liam McNeilis, who looks after the blog, said it was important for the blog fans to be able to stay in touch and help with the campaign after Adrian – as he puts it – ‘shuffles off’.

Liam said: “The aim of the new Facebook group is to keep users informed, educated and motivated following Adrian's campaign to raise awareness and understanding about bone marrow donation.

“There are also plans for a mailing list which people can sign up to and receive updates and information straight to their email accounts.

“These new developments are not taking over from Baldy’s Blog. The hope is to continue to update it with news and updates about the campaign, bone marrow donation and similar news.”
