HUNDREDS of potential buyers are expected to show up when a new luxury flats development is launched tomorrow.

Property agents are forecasting a massive demand for flats at the £14m Mill Royd Island development on Huddersfield Road, Brighouse.

The 130 flats go on sale tomorrow, with prices ranging from £70,000 to £180,000.

And hundreds of buyers and investors are expected to queue to snap up the properties.

Julian D'Arcy, a partner with Leeds-based agents Knight Frank, which is handling the sales, said: "There will be no shortage of buyers and investors.

"The project will appeal to young professionals and couples, as well as families and retired people looking to combine the practicality of town centre living with a picture postcard setting."

He added: "In present market conditions, the apartments represent exceptional value, offering comparable quality and space at a significant discount on normal city centre prices."

The scheme, spearheaded by Leeds-based developer Binks Vertical, involves converting the historic Mill Royd Mill, which stands between the Calder and Hebble Canal and the River Calder.

The disused mill, formerly occupied by wool merchants, will house the flats, as well as a swimming pool, sauna and gym.

The building's key architectural features and stonework are also being restored. They include large picture windows, high ceilings, wrought iron pillars and stone staircases.

Anne Haggas, sales manager at Knight Frank, said: "Most cities now have their own waterfront apartment schemes. But this clever conversion in the heart of Brighouse is one of the most picturesque you could find.

"We know from experience that developments like this sell extremely well.

"Mill Royd Island combines convenience with a range of apartments to suit all pockets. Conversions like this are always very popular. We are expecting interest from across the complete age range," she added.
