AN afternoon of discovery has been planned for families interested in small, green, slimy things.

The Pond Conservation group works in partnership with British Waterways and will be hosting a family-orientated event of amphibian delights.

The second Green and Slimy event will be at Marsden. It is a chance to discover all about life in fresh waters.

It is at Tunnel End Reservoir, Standedge, on Sunday, February 27, starting at 2pm. The afternoon will include a discovery tour.

The reservoir area has been out of commission for several years and has become a prime breeding area for a range of wildlife.

The creation of new ponds are planned for later in the year to encourage a wider variety of wetland wildlife.

Jenny Barr, a community liaison officer for Pond Conservation, said: "The new ponds will encourage a more sustainable and diverse habitat for wildlife."

Anyone wanting to go to the event should meet at the entrance to the nature reserve on Waters Road.

Wrap up warmly and wear stout footwear.
