A POLICE search of a rubbish tip trying to find evidence of a Huddersfield woman believed to be dead has entered its third week.

Detectives have already warned that the hunt for any trace of Sarah Elizabeth Mournian will be painstakingly slow at the tip near York.

The hunt by officers from West Yorkshire Police’s Homicide And Major Enquiry Team began there on Monday, February 4, and is carrying on.

The man accused of murdering 32-year-old Sarah has connections with York.

Kevin Newton, 40, of Grisedale Avenue, Birkby, used to work at the Del Monte factory in the city.

He has been remanded in custody and is awaiting trial.

The 125-acre tip, operated by North Yorkshire recycling and waste management company Yorwaste.

It is called Harewood Whin and is next to Rufforth Airfield on the B1224 York to Wetherby road.

Sarah was last seen alive in Huddersfield last September 18.

Newton was arrested in mid-January and questioned for several days by detectives while police forensics experts carried out a detailed search of his terraced home.

He was then charged with Sarah’s murder and remanded into custody by Huddersfield magistrates.

The house has now been boarded up.
