DRIVERS ignored a woman who tried to flag them down after fleeing a sex attacker.

The 18-year-old was assaulted shortly after 9pm on Thursday as she walked alone from Cleckheaton towards Liversedge.

But her initial attempts to get help failed when several cars did not stop.

Now police have appealed for witnesses or anyone who saw the attacker to come forward.

The victim was walking on Bradford Road in Littletown, near a toilet block in Royds Park, when she was confronted by the man.

He dragged her into the secluded area, forced her to the ground and sexually assaulted her.

The woman punched and kicked the man and escaped.

She tried to flag down passing motorists and eventually raised the alarm at a nearby house.

The attacker was described as white, about 5ft 7in, in his late 20s and slim with dark messy hair.

He had bushy eyebrows, prominent cheek bones and wore a dirty-looking plain light grey sweatshirt or jumper and dark jeans.

A West Yorkshire police spokeswoman said: "This incident took place near a busy road.

"We are appealing for anyone who may have been driving past who saw the woman attempting to flag down a car to get in touch with us.

"They may have seen a man fitting the attacker's description."

Anyone with information should contact Dewsbury CID on 01924 431151.
