NEWSOME people who are retired but not retiring are wanted to join a new group.

The Young At Heart group aims to help older people feel less isolated and lonely.

It has been paid for by Newsome Next Generation, a healthy living project tackling issues which affect people's health and wellbeing.

The project receives cash from the Big Lottery Fund to help develop healthy living in the Newsome ward.

The group meets from 1.30pm to 3.30pm on Thursdays four weeks apart at Newsome Working Men's Club. The next meeting is on April 13, when the theme will be Easter bonnets.

Activities include poetry reading, singalongs, gentle exercise, crime prevention and refreshments.

Jean Goodison, a volunteer, said: "Young At Heart stops older people feeling isolated and lonely. Staff from Next Generation provide support and help people feel welcome and valued."
