CHOOSING bridesmaids is usually a difficult task for anyone planning a wedding.

But for Skelmanthorpe bride Jayne Swift there was only one candidate for the job - her dog Bronson.

Bronson, a female English cocker spaniel, will be by Jayne's side when she marries her partner, Nick Pickering, at Bagden Hall Hotel in Scissett tomorrow.

Jayne, 28, got Bronson 11 years ago, when she was a six-week-old puppy.

She said: "I wouldn't get married without her. I don't go anywhere without her.

"I've had her 11 years and I only met Nick eight years ago - so the dog was there first! He knew we came as a package."

At first Jayne and Nick, 26, faced a struggle to secure Bronson's place at the wedding.

Jayne said: "When I asked, Bagden Hall said they had a strict policy of no dogs allowed. But the wedding co-ordinator spoke to the owner and sorted it out for us.

"They said it could be just this once, as long as it was only for the service. She has to go home while the reception is on."

After the wedding Jayne, who works in a care home for adults with learning and behavioural difficulties, and Nick, a self-employed security systems installer, will be jetting off to Tenerife for their honeymoon.

But Bronson will stay in Skelmanthorpe.

Jayne said: "We've never been abroad, because we always take Bronson on holiday with us. But we are going to Tenerife. She's 11 and I didn't want to put her through the travel."

With just a day to go until the ceremony, Jayne, Nick and Bronson are eagerly awaiting their big day.

Jayne said: "Everything's sorted. I made sure Bronson had her hairdresser's appointment before I sorted out my own! Now we've just got to sit back and enjoy it."
