A HUDDERSFIELD councillor was hoping to be released from hospital today after treatment for a serious illness. Clr Annie Smith (right) will work from her Fixby home for the forseeable future. She has been treated at Huddersfield Royal Infirmary. Her husband Ken, also a councillor, said: "She is carrying on as best she can, but she is going to be ill for a while. She is telling people within the constituency so they are aware she can't carry on her duties as normal." Clr Smith, who represents Greenhead ward has been a councillor for 14 years.

She is chairman of the council's Huddersfield planning committee.
