RAILWAY stations need expanding to cope with greater passenger numbers, according to a report by Metro.

Travellers using Huddersfield Station increased by 18% to 3.4m between 2005 and 2009, Metro announced last week.

Dewsbury Station experienced a 19% increase to 1.2m users in the same period, the West Yorkshire passenger transport executive said.

To cope with growing numbers Trans Pennine Express (TPE) has developed plans to expand Huddersfield Station’s entrance and booking hall.

TPE has suggest moving the shop at Dewsbury Station and opening another ticket issuing window to allow passengers to move around the station more easily.
