A FORMER councillor and band leader died from exposure to harmful chemicals at work, an inquest heard yesterday.
Ex-Lindley councillor Peter Wadsworth, 86, of Crosland Road, Oakes, passed away from bladder cancer at Kirkwood Hospice on March 3.
Mr Wadsworth, who conducted Lindley Brass Band, graduated in chemistry from Leeds University.
He worked as a chemist at a dye works and at various weed killer manufacturers including Mirvale Chemical Company, Mirfield.
Mr Wadsworth was diagnosed with an unremovable bladder tumour in June 2007.
Recording a verdict of industrial disease, coroner Roger Whittaker said: “Together with that work history there is a causal relationship during the early part of his working life.”
