A MAN who went missing on moors south of Holmfirth has been rescued.

Woodhead Mountain Rescue, based at Hade Edge, was called out at 1am yesterday after the 48-year-old Barnsley man failed to return home.

He was found at 3am at the foot of a ravine at Near Black Clough near Bleaklow, in the Peak District.

The man had leg and back injuries after falling from a moorland path.

He was airlifted by an RAF Sea King helicopter from RAF Leconfield, East Yorkshire, and taken to Northern General Hospital in Sheffield.

Mike France, who led the 18-strong rescue team, said: "It was pitch black, but conditions were good with no cloud, so the helicopter could fly."
