MODEL patients took to the catwalk for a truly inspirational evening.

Great-gran Jennie Henderson, 88, of Elland, was just one of the people who got all glammed up to strut their stuff in a fashion show at Cedar Court Hotel, Ainley Top.

The sell-out, 400 ticket show, organised by the breast cancer nursing team, featured models who have all been treated for breast cancer within the Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust.

The amateur models pulled out all the stops to produce a top-class show and received a standing ovation from an audience including their family and friends.

The event is staged each year for breast cancer patients to help boost confidence and bring patients together to share their experiences and support each other.

It is organised by the award-winning breast cancer nursing team, including specialist nurses Veronica Allinson and Julie Bottomley.

Veronica said: “We always say this show is put on by our patients, for our patients, and this year was a classic.

“It is such a tremendous, emotional, night. It’s great not just for the models, but also for families and friends to be able to come along and support them on what is a truly memorable event for everyone involved.”

Bernadette Gledhill, from Huddersfield’s Louise Morton Agency, taught the women how to strut like Kate Moss.

She said: “The models and their terrific supporters made the night so special for everyone involved. They put so much into it and loved every minute of it.”

Designer fashion and backstage support at the event was provided by local businesses, including the Old Post Office, Almondbury; Sunflowers, Pure and Dress for Less in Lindley, House of Elliot at Birchencliffe; Fashion Factory in Huddersfield; and Champagne hat hire of Brighouse.

The models will also be calendar girls with the highlights of the event captured in a calendar for 2009 which will go on sale later this year.
