CAVITY wall and loft insulation is free - to Kirklees people who are over 60 with a gross income of less than £20,000 a year.

For the second year running, Kirklees Council is running the Kirklees Energy Efficiency Programme KEEP Warm scheme in partnership with Scottish Power.

More than 2,500 homes in Kirklees have already benefited from the help.

To qualify, people also need to be a homeowner or a tenant in private rented accommodation and to pay council tax to Kirklees Council. The scheme does not apply to council tenants.

Spokeswoman Kay Beagley said recent fuel price rises would make it even harder for some people to keep warm this winter.

"Home insulation can cut heat loss by over 50%," she said.

The insulation measures in the schemes are subject to a property survey.

Anyone who thinks that they or a member of their family might qualify should ring freephone 0800 028 1141 from Monday to Friday, 8am to 5.30pm.
