INVESTIGATORS probing the case of Kirkheaton gunman Alistair Bell are collating evidence gathered from house-to-house enquiries.

Mr Bell, 42, was shot dead by a police marksman at his house on Cockley Hill Lane, Kirkheaton, in the early hours of Tuesday, December 28.

Hours earlier, he had shot and injured a police officer who had tried to arrest him after he threatened a couple in Kirkheaton.

Mr Bell held police at bay for several hours after that shooting. He is thought to have fired several shots – some of which hit houses in nearby streets.

He was urged to give himself up by negotiators but was eventually shot by West Yorkshire Police marksmen.

He was taken to hospital by ambulance but pronounced dead.

There is still no indication of when an inquest or a funeral service will be held.

The Independent Police Complaints Commission is investigating the incident.

A spokesman said house-to-house enquiries had gone well and the search of Mr Bell’s house and the surrounding area had finished.

But he appealed again for witnesses to contact investigators.

They particularly want to hear from anyone with video or photographs.

The investigation is expected to take up to six months.
