THE official opening of Huddersfield Irish Centre was marked with a dinner.

It was attended by Kirklees Mayor Clr Barbara Allonby and the First Secretary from the Irish Embassy, Maire McCluskey.

Almost 100 guests, made up of representatives of groups linked with the Fitzwilliam Street centre, joined the celebration. Ward councillors Linda Wild, Mohan Sokhal and Jim O'Reilly also attended.

It was five years to the day that the group moved into the Fitzwilliam Street premises.

Now that the deeds of the building have been handed to the trustees it was decided to make the move official.

The centre has 850 members.
