Missing Huddersfield boy Isaac Nash was described as “a likeable lad with a great sense of humour”.

The tribute came from Kirkburton Middle School head Gary Johnson, who will tomorrow welcome new pupils to the school - including Isaac’s younger brother, Xander.

The two boys were swimming in the sea off the coast of Anglesey last Friday when they were swept away.

Xander, 10, was rescued by his dad Adam but Isaac was swept away despite the best efforts of Mr Nash and the boys’ grandfather, Paul.

North Wales Police confirmed the search for 12 year old Isaac was continuing.

Chief Insp Simon Barrasford who is coordinating the search said “The joint emergency service response resumed with a helicopter from North Wales Police joining HM Coastguard in an area around the west coast of Anglesey.

“Specialist police divers and land borne colleagues are also conducting searches particularly during low tide. We will continue to do all we can for Isaac’s family some of whom are still in the area and are being informed of developments”.

Isaac was due to start his third and final year at Kirkburton Middle School on Wednesday, while new pupils start on Tuesday.

Specialist counsellors will be on hand on both days to comfort any of his friends or fellow pupils who need help.

Mr Johnson said: “He was a very likeable lad and a great sportsman. He was also very intelligent, particularly at maths which was his subject, and very artistic and creative.

“He had a real sense of humour, sometimes mischief, but it was never malicious, and always good-humoured.

”He was one of those people who if someone was down in the dumps could immediately get them smiling.

“He has a lot of good friends at the school ad we will do all we can to help them and his family in the days ahead”

Isaac played cricket for Kirkburton and in July helped his team reach the finals of the Romida Examiner Salver for Under 13 teams.

He had also joined Longwood Harriers as a runner and a club spokesman said: “Isaac Nash was one of our promising young athletes. It is terribly sad for his family and friends”.

* A lantern event for all Isaac’s friends and relatives was due to be held this evening at 6pm at Highburton Recreation Ground.
