ISLAMIC extremism is the subject of a play to hit Huddersfield next month.

One Extreme To The Other will be performed at the Hanfia Institute, Bentley Street, Lockwood, on March 27 from 9.30am to noon.

The play, performed by GW Theatre Company, of Manchester, explores prejudice, racism and terrorism from the perspective of two working class families living on a fictional council estate in northern England.

Ali, from a Pakistani family, has become mixed up with Islamic extremism while his former friend Tony, of white British descent, is flirting with the far-right.

The production is set to a background of high unemployment and terrorist attacks on London.

It aims to teach that extremists will attempt to further their own political agendas by creating tensions and division in their communities.

Colleges and schools from Kirklees are expected to attend the event.

Interfaith community worker Waseem Riaz said: “As a key local Kirklees-based mosque, the Hanfia Institute has decided to host this play in the hope it will strengthen community cohesion and also help forge stronger relationships between people from different sections of the local Kirklees community.”
