THE backlog of waste caused by the council workers’ strike has been cleared, says a top councillor.
More than 80,000 homes in Kirklees missed a bin collection during the stoppage on July16 and 17.
Now the council’s Cabinet member for the environment, Clr David Hall, says the backlog had been cleared.
He said: “All grey bin and the vast majority of green bin collection and emptying arrangements are now back to normal and the backlog of waste has been cleared.
“I would like to thank the thousands of householders affected by the two-day strike for their patience and understanding.
“The industrial action was part of a national dispute. It meant many thousands of householders missed having their bins emptied.
“We did reach agreement with the unions for bagged excess waste to be collected if people had serious problems and this seems to have worked.’’
