RESIDENTS have helped transform their estate.

About 130 homes in Brackenhall have been given a facelift by Kirklees Neighbourhood Housing (KNH).

And the residents of Crest Hill Road, Bracken Grove, Trafalgar Close, Hopkinson Road and Leeside Avenue were closely involved in the revamp.

With Loca, the Kirklees art and regeneration group, they helped choose six colours for the exterior painting and also the design of new gates.Walls, fences and canopies were also added to the properties.

Margaret Lees, who chairs the local tenants and residents association, said the work had been a huge success.

She said: “It’s made a big difference. The houses had grey pebble-dash before, but they look fabulous now.”

And Mrs Lees, who lives at Bracken Grove, said the revamp was encouraging people to live in the area.

She said: “Before people didn’t want to move in, but we don’t have any empty houses now. When one becomes available it’s filled within a week.”
