THE 79th Ravensknowle Children's Gala hits town at the weekend.

Tomorrow there will be a special talent show between 5pm and 7pm.

This will showcase about 30 acts by up and coming performers from the local schools.

And on Sunday the gala kicks off with the grand procession leaving Ravensknowle Park at 1pm.

The parade will follow a route around the streets of Dalton and Moldgreen and will be led by marching band The Confederates, from Derby.

It will also include the Gala Queen and court, a majorette troupe and the fancy dress entrants.

The official opening ceremony will be performed on stage at 2pm with the crowning of the Gala Queen, Hayley Ackroyd.

After the judging of the fancy dress there will be continuous family entertainment, both on stage and in the arena.

This will consist of majorette displays, shows from Magic Mike, balloon modelling by Shirley Ray and strongman acts by Tony Brutus.

There will also be a wide variety of stalls, displays, food outlets and fairground rides.

All this runs until 7pm and the event is free.

It all takes place on one field within Ravensknowle Park.

The temporary sitting of Moldgreen Community School has led to the use of only one field.

The two-field site is still unsuitable to use.
