Are they art, a sign of the Illuminati or a cunning advert for a Toblerone?

These bizarre pink and orange two-inch stone pyramids have left the whole of Marsden utterly bamboozled since they began appearing around the village and even on the moors over the last week.

Like a sly alien invasion, the prisms, which have been spray painted with almost sinister grinning faces, have been popping up on walls, windowsills, moorland near Deer Hill and on pub steps to the amusement of the whole community, many of whom are now involved in a treasure hunt to find more.

People in the village have taken to Facebook to try find out the reasoning behind the strange artefacts, with some jokingly suggesting it is a sign of Armageddon or the Illuminati, an alleged secret group some people believe in who they think control world events.

They posted mock up pictures of giant black triangles hovering over the village and comedy photos of celebrities supposedly with the Illuminati sign.

One, joking, said: “It’s the Illuminati...I think we should all meet and discuss the Illuminati stones.

“Hopefully I’ll be in Marsden tonight carrying out my investigations (sic).”

Barney Stevenson joked: “If they all start to glow simultaneously it means that we about to be visited by aliens."

Rain Aziz said: “I was thinking it was a social experiment- maybe you will now all appear on the BBC.”

Kate Mitchell Meade said: “Thank you whoever ... Great treasure hunt for the kids!”

Meanwhile another person admitted she felt a little perturbed by the stones.

“My son came home with three..freaked me out a little.

“I told him to put them outside and lock the door.”
