A COLOURFUL new resident has set up home in Salendine Nook.

This Amazon green parrot stunned residents of Raw Nook Road when it came to roost near their homes this week.

Since Monday, the brightly coloured bird has settled in under the eaves of Anita and Brian Cooper's home.

Mrs Cooper said: "My neighbour noticed it and told me and I thought he was being silly at first.

"It was quite amusing. You see a lot of birds in this area, but certainly not parrots."

Mrs Cooper said other residents had reported seeing the parrot in the graveyard of Salendine Nook Baptist Church off New Hey Road the week before.

She and her neighbours have been feeding it to ensure that it stays in the area.

She said: "I called the police, the RSPCA and the RSPB to see if anyone had reported it missing. But no-one had.

"The RSPB told me they are quite hard to catch, but it might come to its owner's call. So we are hoping someone comes forward.

"It might have got out of someone's house and they may be thinking they would never see it again."
