A Linthwaite man has been banned from the road after being caught drink-driving.
Roger Smith, 25, of Manchester Road, admitted driving whilst over the prescribed limit when he appeared before Kirklees magistrates yesterday.
Prosecutor Alex Bozman said that at just before 4am on September 21 the attention of the police in Slaithwaite was drawn to Smith’s Vauxhall Corsa because of its speed.
Mr Bozman said: “They followed the vehicle and it came to a stop at the old fire station car park in Marsden. The conversation they had with him indicated that he was in drink.”
A blood sample taken at Huddersfield police station showed that he had 97 milligrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood. The legal limit is 80 milligrammes.
Smith, who was not represented, said that he had been suffering with anxiety. He added: “It’s my own stupid fault for taking the car in the first place.”
Magistrates banned him from the road for 12 months.
They ordered him to pay a £350 fine, £85 costs and £35 victim surcharge.
