CHANGES to bus services across West Yorkshire start this weekend.

More than 140 services will change with effect from January 29 and 30.

In Kirklees there are timetable changes on many First bus services, including alterations to routes in Almondbury and Newsome.

There will be revised services between Huddersfield and Colne Valley.

There are changes to express services into Wakefield, Barnsley and Sheffield.

Metro has produced a Changing Times booklet giving details of all alterations, which is available from bus stations, travel centres, libraries and some post offices.

Timetables for all the new and revised services can be downloaded from Metro's website

New timetable leaflets are available from Metro's travel centres in Bradford, Halifax, Huddersfield and Leeds.

Up-to-the-minute information is available from MetroLine on 0113 245 7676, between 7am and 10pm, seven days a week.

This is the first of six sets of service changes Metro has agreed with West Yorkshire's bus operators for 2005.

Other weekends when major changes take place are April 23 and 24, July 30 and 31, September 3 and 4, October 29 and 30 October and December 10 and 11.

* Campaigners are continuing their fight to get the 308 bus service reinstated on Lockwood Scar, Newsome.

They lobbied Kirklees Council last week, also calling for an extension of the reinstated 368 service from Almondbury to Huddersfield.

Campaign co-ordinator Jean Goodison said pensioners were having to pay £6 taxi fares to collect pensions or visit the doctors because of the loss of the service.

She said the council paid hundreds of thousands of pounds in subsidy each year to West Yorkshire passenger Transport Executive and some of this should be used to reinstate the 308 service.
