CLIMATE change campaigners are hosting a free showing of a hit film about global warming.

The Age of Stupid, directed by Fanny Armstrong and starring the late Pete Postlethwaite will be screened tomorrow night from 7pm to 9pm in the Gallery Room of Holmfirth Parish Church.

Holmfirth Transition Town (HoTT) has chosen to show the fascinating drama-documentary in order to show how our future might look if we don’t act on carbon emissions now.

The film, which uses contemporary news footage, also shows the danger of our dependance on oil.

Actor Pete Postlethwaite plays a man living alone in the devastated world of 2055, watching archive footage from the fist decade of the century and asking himself why nothing was done to stop climate change when we had the chance.

Organiser Martin Smith, from HoTT, said: “We chose the film because it is a powerful piece and secondly it stars the recently deceased Pete Postlethwaite.

“We thought it was appropriate to bring it forward because of his prominence as a film actor and this is one of his really great films.

“We feel the message in the film is relevant to the needs of this area and it raises important questions for us to address.”

HoTT was established in February 2010 and is now running regular events to raise awareness of climate change and how communities can work together to save money on fuel bills and reduce their carbon footprint.

All are welcome to the screening.
