CHILDREN, staff and parents from Kaye’s First and Nursery School held a memorial event for the late Sheila Clark, a close friend of the school community.

Her years of volunteering and development of the school’s outdoor environmental area ‘The Orchard’ were remembered and celebrated.

The event at the Clayton West school started with a birds of prey display by Ben Potter which was followed by the opening of a new outdoor classroom ‘Sheila’s Shed’ which has been provided by the local Rotary club.

‘Sheila’s Sundial’ was also opened, which was supported by Denby Dale Parish Environmental Trust.

Sheila’s husband Gordon and son Graeme also planted a buddleia in the garden.

The event continued into the evening with pond dipping, nature trails, and home-made cakes in the environment Sheila had created.

Headteacher Helen Parker said: “Sheila was a very special person who was a big part of Kaye’s. We are very grateful for all that she brought to our school and we are absolutely certain that Sheila’s legacy will live on at Kaye’s long into the future.”
