FREE heating and insulation upgrades are available to homes in Huddersfield.

Kirklees Council is offering energy saving measures, including new boilers, solar thermal panels and loft insulation, to homes as part of its Big Energy Upgrade.

The scheme, which also offers photo-voltaic panels and external thermal wall insulation, aims to make homes warmer and cheaper to heat.

The Big Energy Upgrade, run in conjunction with social housing manager Kirklees Neighbour Housing, aims to improve the efficiency of homes which are unable to benefit from traditional insulation methods, such as cavity wall insulation.

The £7m scheme, funded by the European Regional Development Fund, has already started on homes in Dewsbury.

Chickenley resident, Brian Shaw, was one of the first to benefit from the scheme when external wall insulation was installed on his home.

Mr Shaw said: “We are really happy with the work that has been done. It has made a massive improvement to our home.

“Also, having the solar panels fitted should further our energy saving costs”.
