STAR gazers can help to measure how light pollution affects the night sky.

Details of the number of stars seen in the constellation of Orion this week will be used to create a star count map to show the impact of light from towns, cities and roads on dark skies.

The star count is being run by the Campaign to Protect Rural England and the British Astronomical Association’s Campaign for Dark Skies. They hope it will strengthen efforts to make ministers and local councils take action to tackle light pollution.
