CAMPAIGNERS will meet with Colne Valley MP Jason McCartney to persuade him to act on climate change.

The lobby is part of the national Stop Climate Chaos Big Climate Reconnection.

Local group members will be meeting at Mr McCartneys’s surgery on Saturday April 16 at Huddersfield Road in Holmfirth at 9.30am.

They will be asking Mr McCartney to ensure that the government supports the Committee on Climate Change’s recommendation that the UK reduces its carbon pollution by 60 per cent by 2030.

The lobby will also be asking the MP to support changes to the Energy Bill which will soon be going through parliament.

The campaigners want the government to have a legal duty to implement policies to increase the energy efficiency of the UK’s buildings.

They also want emissions reductions to become a core responsibility of councils.

Tim Padmore from Kirklees Campaign Against Climate Change said: “A dozen or so people from a variety of groups attended the lobby of Jason McCartney in November.

“There were environmentalists, teachers, members of faith groups, workers at the Citizen’s Advice Bureau concerned about fuel poverty and people involved in transition town projects.

“We were impressed by Jason McCartney’s support for the policy asks of that lobby and look forward to meeting him again next month.”

Members of the public are welcome to attend the lobby but organisers request that they contact them in advance.
