ITN newsreader Nina Hossain has pledged her support to a charity in her home town.

She has backed the Brackenhall-based children’s charity Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice.

Nina, who is a regular on News at Ten, grew up only a couple of miles from the hospice’s site in Brackenhall.

And after visiting the Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice on a visit to her home town, the Huddersfield-born star backed the fantastic work that the charity does and praised the team for all that they do within the community.

Nina, who last week hosted the Examiner Community Awards, said: “What a simply lovely place this is, from the setting, to the facilities, to the very feel of the place.

“The team are so passionate about getting every detail right for every child and every family.

“Huddersfield is very lucky to now have the Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice at its heart.”

The Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice provides care for children with life threatening conditions, and their families, across Calderdale, Kirklees and Wakefield, and must raise over £2.5m per year to ensure it can continue providing the care it gives.

Peter Branson, chief executive at Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice, said: “We really appreciate Nina offering her support to the charity.

“It is fantastic when a person in the public eye such as Nina backs their local charities, and we’re sure that there will be some great opportunities to work together in the near future.”

Nina, who has been a presenter at ITN for the past nine years, currently presents the national news on ITV.

The hospice supports over 50 children and their families, across Calderdale, Kirklees and Wakefield, through its hospice at home service and state of the art hospice Russell House in Huddersfield.

The support the charity gives children and families may sometimes last for a few weeks or months, but frequently will be over many years as they help children with long term degenerative conditions.
