HALIFAX High School has a new headteacher.
Jackie Nellis has been appointed to the role in the Wellesley Park school.
She worked as assistant headteacher at Halifax High from 2000 to 2004. From 2005, she was headteacher of Carlton Bolling College in Bradford, which she helped to lead from special measures to outstanding within 3 years.
Clive Howlett, executive headteacher for the past term, will now step down.
Earlier this year Christian Markham – former deputy head of Honley High School – stood down as headteacher at Halifax High.
Mr Markham had been suspended from his job after failing to turn up for work after the summer holidays last year.
He resigned to “pursue other interests”.
The school gained an ‘outstanding’ judgement from Ofsted in 2007, and had made rapid improvement in exam results and the achievement of Specialist School status in performing arts and languages.
Mrs Nellis said: “I am absolutely delighted to become headteacher of Halifax High and feel very optimistic about the future of the school.”
