One of Huddersfield’s best-known pubs, Jacobs Well at Honley has re-opened following a £200,000 makeover.

It is the biggest renovation of the Woodhead Road pub since 1986 and has seen a complete refurbishment, everything from the bar and dining area to the outside.

Licensee, Grahame Nutt, said: “We were closed for three weeks and five days, from October 5. Since then there’s been a complete transformation of the interior.

“We’ve relocated the ladies toilets to create a large dining room and there’s now a separate lounge or drinking area with a restored real fire.

“And in the outdoor drinking area, beyond the dining room, there’s going to be a wood-fired pizza oven in future.”

Elsewhere, there are plenty of framed prints of bygone Honley dating back to when the village had its own boating lake, Hope Bank, in 1910 and harking back to the days of swing boats and steam trains, when it was optimistically known as The New Blackpool.

Grahame added: “Sue and I came here three years ago and our business plan was to take this step in our fifth year but we’ve managed to complete it two years ahead of schedule.

“Thwaites put in £161,000 and Sue and I chipped in the other £39,000.”
