A TOP Kirklees Council officer has been promoted.

Assistant director for investment and regeneration Jacqui Gedman was yesterday named interim director of place, replacing Ken Gillespie, who retires next month. She will be paid between £105,000 and £110,000 during her 12-month term.

Ms Gedman, 43, is currently in charge of planning policy in Kirklees. She has overseen the controversial Local Development Framework – the council’s plan to allow 28,000 new homes in the district by 2028.

Ms Gedman said: “The role of interim director of place is particularly vital when there are severe challenges for local people and the wider economy. In this role I’m keen to ensure Kirklees reaches its economic potential.”
