A woman was hit in the face when she jumped the queue at a McDonald’s restaurant.

Leoni Hanson suffered a bloodied nose and swelling to her face after she headed straight to the front to redeem a drink coupon.

Jade St Hilaire admitted assaulting her when she appeared at Kirklees Magistrates’ Court.

The incident happened on March 24 at the restaurant in Huddersfield town centre.

Prosecutor James Weekes said there seemed to have been a few cases of violence there recently.

He told magistrates that the Westgate restaurant can get busy with long queues forming.

Mr Weekes said: “On this occasion the defendant was in the queue waiting to be served by staff.

“The complainant and her partner were also in the queue but had a coupon for a free drink.

“They understood that because they had their coupon they could go to the counter and get their drink, bypassing the queue.

“The defendant took exception to that and there was an argument between them.”

During this argument St Hilaire, 27, struck Ms Hanson to her face. She was restrained by Ms Hanson’s partner and police were called.

In interview St Hilaire, of Trafalgar Close, Sheepridge, admitted she had voiced her displeasure at the couple failing to queue up.

She claimed that the male had been arrogant and become threatening towards her.

Magistrates heard that St Hilaire received a police caution for battery in October 2011 and a conviction for assault in February 2012.

Ben Tighe, mitigating, said that the couple had barged past his client in the restaurant.

He said: “It was on that basis that she began remonstrating and a heated exchange ensued.

“It was six of one and half a dozen of the other and she had a loss of temper.”

Magistrates fined St Hilaire £110. She must also pay £75 compensation to Ms Hanson as well as £85 court costs and £20 victim surcharge.
