A DEWSBURY man has admitted killing a man in a vicious street attack last summer.

Jack Carter, 39, of Bretton Street, Savile Town, was attacked in Victoria Road, Thornhill Lees, on August 28.

He suffered serious head injuries and was put on life support at Dewsbury and District Hospital.

His family kept a bedside vigil but he died from his injuries three days later.

Yesterday, Mohammed Nazakat Alam, 25, pleaded guilty to the charge of manslaughter at Leeds Crown Court. His co-accused Nisar Shah, 40, denied manslaughter, but admitted assault occasioning actual bodily harm for his part in the attack.The duo were originally charged with murder.

Alam, of Beckett Lane, Dewsbury Moor, was remanded in custody and told he would be given a prison sentence.

Shah, formerly of Victoria Road, was given bail but told by the Recorder of Leeds, Peter Collier QC, that he could also be jailed.

The pair will be sentenced at Leeds Crown Court on January 5.
